Thoughts on the Heart
Isn’t it amazing how much of our language about the things that matter most references the heart?
Think about these “HEART WORDS”: whole-hearted, full of heart, light-hearted, heartache, heartbreak, heavy heart, heart sore, heart-warming, etc.
What about: “let’s get to the heart of the matter.” It suggests that at the heart, you find the source – the real reasons, the truth, the essence, the core of whatever is going on. When we share our deepest emotions, we say it’s a “heart-to-heart.” When we emphasize something with authenticity, we say it’s “from the bottom of our hearts.” If we share a secret, we “open our hearts.” And when we are vulnerable, we “wear our hearts on our sleeve.”
We refer to our hearts as if we know deep down that they are more than just a blood-pumping, feeling factory. They are us. They are our core. I fully believe that our heart has the potential to be the most beautiful, original masterpiece that can completely change our lives. I believe at its truest it was created in heaven and sent to earth wrapped in flesh and bone. Our journey to emotional, spiritual, and mental wholeness has a lot to do with the journey of our hearts.
